Sawasdi Kha! (Hello!)
My name is Selina A. Poliquin,
I have been practicing massage and other forms of bodywork since 2010.
I am Nationally Certified in the U.S. for Massage Therapy and Thai Massage. I went to Massage School in Spokane, Washington at "Inland Massage Institute" and graduated with two National Exams, NCBTMB & the Mblex.
My Thai Massage training was completed in Thailand where I stayed in Chiang Mai for 3 months in 2013, completing 320 hours of Thai massage instruction, certifying me to practice and teach Thai massage internationally and the U.S..
I am also a member of NCBTMB (National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork) and ABMP (Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals). I am also a Certified Professional Life Coach completing a year at IPEC, (Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching) in 2016.
Why I became a Licensed Massage Practitioner: Before I had experienced massage for myself I understood very little about why some one would get a massage nor the dramatic affects it could have. My first experience was after I had been asked to try massage for a neck and shoulder injury I had been suffering with for many years and for 12 years I went in for weekly chiropractic adjustments that had not been able to improve my pain, mobility or help my body to heal. Luckily the chiropractor suggested I try massage and after only three treatments of massage therapy, over the course of only three weeks, I was amazed at the difference I felt. I was able to turn my head and actually see behind me. I knew I was on my way to getting better and I needed to find out more about massage. I asked a lot of questions from the massage therapist that had helped me and decided to become a massage therapist myself so that I could share the benefits and experience of massage with my family and others.
After about 18 months of practicing Swedish massage I decided to look at different modalities for massage and found Thai massage. It intrigued me greatly with all the stretching bodywork as well as working with clients fully clothed and on the floor on a mat. I had already integrated stretches into my work with my clients, it just seemed natural to me and Thai massage also seemed to be the natural course for my work to progress. And now with my past years of training, experience and practice in Thai Massage bodywork, I know I made the right choice! I absolutely love what I do and I love seeing the visible long-lasting changes in my clients bodies, health, mobility and overall feelings of well being in all areas of their lives because of the Thai bodywork. I also teach all of my clients how to maintain and continue the bodywork on their own so that they have the powerful benefits of stretching independently while at home too.
Why I am Teaching Thai Massage and Bodywork Now
Quite simply, I love to teach....having over 2 decades of teaching experience and because of my love of Thai and it is time I share my experience and knowledge with others. This modality of bodywork is so important to better everyone's ability to stay healthy and mobile. No matter how old you are. Many people just need a place to start or need assistance with stretching and getting going with a good stretching routine. Thai is it! I teach Thai in a progressive natural way so that each therapist or student can have a good foundation of the possible rhythmic dance of poses and movements Thai can be. Good transition is so important as well as the ability to assess the tissues and body to know how much stretching and pressure! Thai is very therapeutic for the therapist also as we stretching right along with our clients.
A Word about Massage and Bodywork.
I encourage everyone to at least try massage and or bodywork and don't give up because of some unfavorable experiences with one or a few therapists. As therapists and bodyworkers, we are all different and our ways of application, technique and philosophy are all different, as well as our unique energies. Keep seeking the therapist or bodyworker that is just right for you. You may even consider seeing different therapists for different specific treatments and bodywork. Don't limit yourself, there are so many options and modalities and you and your well-being as well as the feeling of having a healthy body are so worth it. I am confident that if a person can find a therapist that they can trust and have a good interaction with, which is very important, together they will find the right therapy and bodywork for them and the desired out come will be experienced and achieved.
My Thai bodywork therapy is an ever evolving endeavor and passion in my life as I experience and learn new things. And I will always seek to help and encourage my clients to achieve the dramatic effects Thai has on the body as I have seen it so many times for those I have worked with.
It is my heart felt hope that you will discover the bodywork that is right for you and it's many incredible benefits for you, and for your life.
Best Regards,
Sincerely, Selina ~
